CASE / RUSUTSU RESORT

Understanding unseen groundwater through fieldwork and data.

At Rusutsu, researchers walk the mountains, forests and rivers to investigate wells, groundwater, springs, rainfall and forests.

Monitoring wells, water-level sensors, rain gauges and LoRaWAN have since been introduced, developing the work into continuous water-cycle monitoring.

The work now extends beyond collecting data to protecting and nurturing water through forest recharge, leaky dams and kerplunk structures.

    Understand nature

    Groundwater, springs, geology, rainfall and forest surveys

    We walk mountains, forests, rivers, springs and wells with researchers to investigate where water comes from and where it goes. Survey results inform monitoring plans and nature-based improvements such as forest recharge, leaky dams and kerplunk structures.

    AquaInsight

    Monitoring wells, water-level sensors, rain gauges and LoRaWAN continuously capture changes in groundwater and rainfall. Connecting field surveys with monitoring data and AquaInsight helps turn observations into information for understanding and improving the water cycle.
